Moodle is a Virtual learning Environment which offers file sharing, communication tools and pedagogical resources to users. University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainable Leadership’s (CISL) provides these services subject to the University Terms and Conditions statement. Further information and guidance for use can be found below.

Primary Use of Moodle

Moodle is the main VLE of the CISL. It is provided by CISL in collaboration with Twin Dots ltd and is used to house CISL online course and support face to face courses.

Other Uses of Moodle

Although the primary use of Moodle is to support the delivery of teaching and learning external courses, the online tools and facilities in the system allow it to be used to support other activities, such as staff and volunteer training, research projects, administrative processes, committee business, and general secure file-sharing.

Support for Moodle Users

Support for Moodle users is provided by CISL through knowledge@cisl.cam.ac.uk

Updates to Moodle

Twin Dots and CISL regularly make changes to Moodle to improve its security, stability, and usability.

Review

The purpose and aims of Moodle and the policies governing its use are under constant review to ensure the system meets, and continues to meet, the University’s requirements for teaching and learning, as defined by the Learning and Teaching Strategy (2015-2018) and the Digital Strategy for Education (2016-2020).

Accessing this site

As an authorised user you are responsible for the security of your user name and password. Please note: You must not share your user name and password with others to allow them entry to this Site.

You may use the Site only for lawful purposes. You must not use the Site:

  • In any way that breaches any applicable local, national or international law or regulation;
  • In any way that is unlawful or fraudulent or has any unlawful or fraudulent purpose or effect;

Making contributions

All authorised users posting material within this VLE are responsible for their own postings. In making a contribution to this VLE (“Contribution”) you grant to the University a non- exclusive, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free licence to reproduce, edit, transmit, communicate, display and/or distribute all or part of your Contribution for the purposes of learning, teaching and student assessment components of CISL courses for the full period of copyright and related rights in the material.

You agree to abide by the Content Standards and Copyright Regulations (see below) and accordingly agree not to submit material that is liable to disrupt the study of other students or corporate users.

The University, through the Director of CISL reserves the right to remove any material that contravenes these terms and conditions. The online environment replicates the standard classroom and appropriate standards of behaviour are expected; all students, corporate users and lecturers tutors are expected to respect the rights of others within this Site. Lecturers and tutors are authorised to communicate with students or corporate users whose behaviour presents cause for concern and to issue a warning and inform the Director of CISL at the University. Continued inappropriate behaviour may result in exclusion from this on-line environment without further notice.

Content Standards

These Content Standards apply to any and all material which you contribute to this Site within a Contribution, and to any interactive services or features associated with it, such as the Discussion Forums.

Contributions must:

  • Be accurate (where they state facts);
  • Be genuinely held (where they state opinions); and
  • Comply with applicable law in the UK and the law of the country from which they are posted.

Contributions must not:

  • Contain any material that is likely to offend, provoke or attack other contributors to or users of the Site;
  • Contain any material that is defamatory of any person;
  • Contain any material that is obscene, offensive, abusive or hateful;
  • Promote sexually explicit material;
  • Promote violence or contain a statement or describe or encourage activities that could endanger the safety or well-being of others;
  • Promote discrimination of the basis of age, sex, sexual orientation, disability, race, religion, or nationality;
  • Infringe any copyright, trademark or other intellectual property right of any person or organisation;
  • Advocate, promote or assist any unlawful act or illegal activity;
  • Be made in breach of any legal duty owed to a third party such as a contractual duty or a duty of confidence;
  • Be threatening, harass, abuse or invade another’s privacy or cause annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety to any person;
  • Be used to impersonate any person or to misrepresent the contributor’s identity or affiliation with any person or organisation; and
  • Contain any material that contains viruses or any other computer code, programs or files designed to destroy, interrupt or limit the functionality of any computer, computer software or hardware or telecommunications equipment.

Please note: The University reserves the right to review, edit or remove any Contribution which in its discretion that in its sole discretion breaches these Content Standards and to take further action as the Director of CISL at the University feels necessary or is required by law, which may include the exclusion of the contributor from this VLE.

Contributions are the intellectual property of the contributor and should be acknowledged wherever quoted or referred to by other course participants.

Registered users are also bound by the rules for appropriate use imposed by the University's Information Strategy and Services Syndicate as amended from time to time.

Students may be expected to submit work for assessment electronically via the VLE . The University reserves the right to submit a course participant’s work submitted for assessment to an appropriate electronic plagiarism detection service if that work is suspected to be largely composed of plagiarised material. Further information will accompany details relating to assignment submission where relevant.

Copyright Regulations

Please note: Lecturers, tutors, staff, corporate users and students are reminded that copyright subsists in these learning materials and the works from which they are taken.

Notice and Takedown Policy

If you are a copyright owner and are concerned that you have found material in these learning materials for which you have not given permission, or is not covered by a legal statutory exemption, please contact us in writing stating your contact details, the bibliographical details of the material and the location where you found the material.

Upon receipt of notification the University will acknowledge receipt of your complaint by email or letter and will make an initial assessment of the validity and plausibility of the compliant.

Upon receipt of a valid compliant the material will be temporarily removed from the Site pending an agreed solution.
